Nintendo teases possible Minecraft release for Wii U and 3DS

Minecraft started as a small Java game on the PC, and has expanded to nearly every gaming platform (or in development for) with one exception - Nintendo's consoles. Despite Minecraft matching the casual game genre that Nintendo and it's consoles are known for, the game is nowhere to be seen on any of their consoles.

At the popular gaming venue E3, where 4J Studios showed off Minecraft on next-gen consoles, Nintendo's Software Planning & Development teams discussed the posibilty of Minecraft on Nintendo consoles:
We've always thought internally that using the [Wii U] GamePad would probably make for a Minecraft that's very easy to play. And, of course, if we were to do something with Minecraft on the 3DS, similarly we would probably do it where it would be easier to play and could probably reach a lot of kids.

What's interesting is that, in Japan, Minecraft is not popular in the way it is in the U.S. and Europe, so we've also thought that, if we were able to do a partnership like that, it might bring opportunity to help make Minecraft more popular in Japan.

In addition, Shigeru Miyamoto (one of the top video game developers at Nintendo) hinted that they are already in talks with Mojang about a port:
Maybe we're meeting with them! Who knows?

4J Studios, the company contracted by Mojang to produce console ports of Minecraft, is already in the process of developing Minecraft for the Xbox One, PS4, and PS Vita. See the source link for all the details.

I dont think minecraft would work well on the 3ds without circle pad pro.

I think It'll be good for Minecraft to be released on the Wii U at least. The 3DS would need the Circle Pad Pro and would probably be a gimped version of PE. On the Wii U, it could be a better version of XBox 360/PS3 Minecraft and would also help sales in the U.S and Europe, as it's been selling terrible in those Countries.

Metroid Prime Hunters On the DS worked fine with the stylus controls (it did give handcramps though)

Shigeru Miyamoto isn't just one of the top Nintendo Game Developers. He is behind some of Nintendo's most acclaimed and popular video games ever (such as Donkey Kong, Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Pikmin). Miyamoto is also the general manager of Nintendo, and one of the managers of Nintendo's Analysis and Development department.

I have the original DS, so this won't work for me. I do live in Japan, and guess what? Minecraft is really popular there. I had a Japanese school exchange and a few people asked me if I played Minecraft (which obviously the askers also did).

The 3ds and wii u are not powerful enough to play minecraft. If it were released on them, it would be like pocket edition.

I don't think you know what you're talking about, 3DS would be like Pocket Edition but the Wii U could run Minecraft the same as Xbox One/PS4.
