Minecraft can now run simulations of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence research can be extremely time-consuming for researchers, but Microsoft is looking to change that. Microsoft has been developing tools for developing artificial intelligence for a while now, under the name 'Project AIX', but now the company has announced they plan to add Minecraft support to AIX.

What does this mean? It means when researchers are developing code for artificial intelligence, they can give control of the Minecraft player to the artificial intelligence and see how they do. This gives them an instant visual of how the code is working, and allows them to quickly make changes and try it again.

While the Minecraft component is still in private beta, researchers are incredibly excited for it. "People build amazing structures that do amazing things in Minecraft, and this allows experimenters to put in tasks that will stretch AI technology beyond its current capacity," explained Katja Hofmann, who leads the project at Microsoft Research's Cambridge lab in the UK.

If this is any indication, when intelligent robots take over the world, they will probably be able to play Minecraft with you.
